A Recent Visit to See Autumn
It was wonderful to be back on the East Coast for an Autumn visit! After spending the better part of a week in NYC representing Canon at the PhotoPlus conference at the Jacob Javit’s Center, I headed to Long Island to visit with my family! With the fall colors at near peak, I called my good friend Vinny Bonamassa to take a ride north to visit Kent Falls State Park with me.I was hoping to share my time lapse techniques with my very talented videographer friend! Sadly, it was just not that kind of day as the weather was overcast and a falling mist for a lot of the early parts of the afternoon. I was able to share with Vinny about the differences in shutter speed usage between the restrictions of the video side of exposure and the still photographers tool of long shutter speeds to accentuate moving water, in the case of the multi-tiered Kent Falls.
Vinny picked things up very quickly and this remarkable videographer just expanded his still photography techniques!I was showing him how a polarizer works to remove glare or reflections from wet surfaces and we worked with ND (neutral density) filters to allow the shutter speed to slow down, in most of the cases in the images below, I was exposing images from 30 seconds to 5 minutes.
All of these images were captured on Canon cameras, the 5D Mark III and the 1DX bodies fitted with Canon’s 16-35mm 2.8, 28-300mm IS L Lens, 24-105mm f/4 IS lens. For support, I rely on my ReallyRightStuff BH-55 ball head and RRS L brackets to keep the camera mounted either in a vertical or horizontal orientation. Finally, I count on my digital media from Delkin Devices, the best and fastest write speed CF and SD cards!
I hope that you were successful at capturing this years fall colors! Enjoy shooting!
